What inventions during the Industrial Age helped America grow?

I know that a great deal of Americas success is because of inventions. But what type of impact did they have on the growth of America?

  1. The Bessemer process for converting iron into steel. Without it, the great railroads wouldn't have been nearly as effective. Steel is stronger than iron and allows for larger trains and faster speeds. Also, there wouldn't have been skyscrapers, iron isn't strong enough for sky scrapers. I'd say the Bessemer process is one of the most important innovations of the last two hundred years.

  3. The printing press with out it recording history would be impossible
  4. Darn it, I was going to say the Bessemer process also. Not only did it allow for steel for building, but also railroads. Another invention that helped was the electric lightbulb. It allowed safer lighting at night for factories and for home use.
