  1. Ancient inventions are everwhere! Have you ever used a hammer? Prehistoric man used hard rocks to break up softer rocks, be it to make other tools or just to expirement with different rocks. The Romans built huge temples using a primative pully system (like our crane) and the ramp! They built arches, still the strongest man made form! It is amazing how much ancient stuff has formed itself to our society! You can't look around without seeing something prehistoric, in a new form, but sitll prehistoric!
  2. Maybe somewhat. I think the ancient tools were improved upon from time to time even until the gasoline engine was invented. That's when the inventions really started and that's why we have the marvels that we have today.
  3. Do you use anything that has wheels? Think about if there were no wheels.
  4. I cannot imagine mac & cheese eaten with a flat rock. Angel food cake, how would you whip the whites without a free standing mixer? Hummus wouldn't be the same without my food processor... Slice a turkey without my electric knife - forget it. I would not make it in ancient times!

  6. Last year, I visited a salt mine in Austria that was started during the stone age and then continued by the Romans. It is still in operation, and uses the most advanced salt mining methods in the world. Why is that relevant to your question? Because each advance in mining methods was a small advance. People used to scratch out the salt with deer antler tools, now they use complex machines, but the thought is the same. People have mentioned hammers and wheels. Think brooms, plates, cups, enclosures for animals, water resistant housing, clothing, making thread from animal hair or plant fibers (wool, cotton), and all those other things we still use. Those lists of new things people gave you do not wipe out the old things that are either still around or have just been gradually improved upon.
  7. Basically all tools are of five kinds: Inclined Planks, wedges, levers, pullies, and wheels. All--or at least the overwhealming majority--of other tools and machines can be made from simple combinations of these five. Gears are just wheels that interlock;elevators are modifications on pulley systems, and so on.
