how and where to sell invention ideas in the uk?

My dad has come up with several ideas for inventions, and would like to know if there is anywhere in the uk to sell the ideas to. He tried a company in america, but it would have cost £6000 to patent and make a prototype. He is interested in selling the idea to someone else, and still gain a percentage of the royalties if his inventions sell.
